So, it’s no surprise that I love YA books, I read them exclusively. But it may be a surprise that I love a good contemporary YA book. Sometimes I’m not all about murder, space, historical YA, etc. It’s a bit weird for me, but I’m learning to fully embrace the contemporary genre! There’s something amazing about reading a characters journey through life or particular situation. It can be heartfelt, powerful, sad, joyful, or all of those at once (usually that’s when you know you’ve found a good contemporary YA). While I’m learning to indulge in the contemporary YA genre, I thought I would share my top list of my favorite contemporary reads I’ve read so far. Here we go!
Thank goodness 2018 is over! I’m ready to accept all the greatness that 2019 has to offer and part of that greatness is reading as many books as possible! But before I can do that, I want look back on all the wonderful books I read in 2018. I was able to read 43 books in 2018, so this list is the top of the class. Not all of these books were published in 2018, but they came into my life in 2018. These books were the ones that made me laugh, cry, swoon, understand myself and others more, made me think, hope, and want to fight for a better world. These books stayed with me long after I finished reading them and those are the best kinds of books. Without further ado, here is my list of the top 10 YA books I read in 2018*.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! You totally sang that in your head didn’t you? No, it’s not Christmas. It’s not Halloween. It’s not the Superbowl. It’s much better than all of those combined! I might be overselling it, but I can’t help myself, I just love when I get to do these articles! It’s time for another YA Quarterly Book Haul! And it’s a good haul too. I got a few of these books for my birthday, I bought a few a gifts for myself for my birthday, and others I’ve picked up over the last few months because let’s be honest, it’s really hard to be a human sometimes and people are always saying to practice self love and it just so happens that books are my love language. Anyways, on with the show!
