So, it’s no surprise that I love YA books, I read them exclusively. But it may be a surprise that I love a good contemporary YA book. Sometimes I’m not all about murder, space, historical YA, etc. It’s a bit weird for me, but I’m learning to fully embrace the contemporary genre! There’s something amazing about reading a characters journey through life or particular situation. It can be heartfelt, powerful, sad, joyful, or all of those at once (usually that’s when you know you’ve found a good contemporary YA). While I’m learning to indulge in the contemporary YA genre, I thought I would share my top list of my favorite contemporary reads I’ve read so far. Here we go!
Love is in the air! That means it’s time to talk about my favorite fandom ships. This list is comprised mostly of ships that are canon and maybe one or two that I just want or wish would happen really, really bad. Some of these ships are classic and so full of love that I still ugly cry when I watch their episodes when they fall in love and ugly cry even more when they get in fights. Ugh, it’s making me emotional just thinking about it. Let’s start with the list* before my eyes spring a leak.
*In no particular order
Also, this list may contain spoilers if you haven’t read/watched the books, shows, or movies these ships are from. Read at your own risk.
Thank goodness 2018 is over! I’m ready to accept all the greatness that 2019 has to offer and part of that greatness is reading as many books as possible! But before I can do that, I want look back on all the wonderful books I read in 2018. I was able to read 43 books in 2018, so this list is the top of the class. Not all of these books were published in 2018, but they came into my life in 2018. These books were the ones that made me laugh, cry, swoon, understand myself and others more, made me think, hope, and want to fight for a better world. These books stayed with me long after I finished reading them and those are the best kinds of books. Without further ado, here is my list of the top 10 YA books I read in 2018*.
I just got back from Y’allFest! Woo! It was amazing as always. Lots of books, lots of fellow book nerds, and lots of authors! If you haven’t heard of Y’allFest, it’s a young adult book festival in Charleston, SC. There are book signings, author panels, ARC (advanced reading copy) giveaways, and so much more! It’s an amazing event and this is my 3rd year going and it just gets better and better each year. I love going to get tons of books and attend a few panels, but mostly I like going to experience the amazingness of the YA book community. There’s so many people there and while you wait in line for an ARC or for a panel or signing, you strike up conversations about books and life and you end up with a new friend and a few more book recommendations. It’s honestly just so wonderful. I highly, highly recommend this festival. On another hand, since I just got back, I decided to share my Y’allFest haul with you guys! So here’s a list of the top 10 ARC’s* I got from Y’allFest!
It’s the best time of the year! No, it’s not Treat Yo Self 2018, instead it’s the week that a new season of American Horror Story premieres! And it’s almost fall, which means it’s almost Halloween, which also means it’s time to put up all the decorations! In the creepy spirit of this incredible show, I thought I’d take a look back at all the other great seasons and pick out my favorite characters. It was so hard to get this list down to just 10 because there are so many amazing and scary characters. So while you’re waiting for the next new episode, check out my list* and geek out with me about all these terrifying, but lovely characters!
It has happened! Season 6 of Orange is the New Black is out into the world and it’s amazing! But, this isn’t a review. No, since new season is out, I thought we should go back and look at the best quotes all these wonderful seasons have given us. So sit down and get comfy, because we’re going back to Litchfield.
