It’s Christmas! A day filled with gifts, loved ones, and Doctor Who. Except this year they’ve decided to not do a Doctor Who Christmas special. I know, I know, it’s quite the bummer. But my geeky friends, it’s still a joyous day that should be spent focused on what we’re grateful for in this season. So instead of crying into our scarves about the lack of a Doctor Who Christmas special this year, let’s look back on all the other Christmas specials and focus on all the wonderful reasons to love these uniquely Christmas specials*.

It’s finally December! Time to buy presents, put up decorations, and eat all the good food! And most importantly, time to watch all the holiday episodes! Every good TV show does holiday episodes: Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. If you want your show to be good, you better have a holiday episode of some kind. What else am I suppose to do while I eat gingerbread cookies and avoid reality? Bob’s Burgers does amazing holiday episodes! The kids are hilarious, the situations are crazy, but relatable, and the characters are down right perfect. Don’t believe me? Just look up Linda Belcher quotes and then try to tell me that Linda isn’t the most amazing creature. During the holiday season, I like to re-watch holiday episodes to really get me in the spirit and this week I re-watched all the Bob’s Burgers holiday episodes and decided to do a Top 5 list. Come along with me on this magical holiday journey!

We didn’t get to talk to Noah for a few days since you know, his sister was just murdered. I’ve heard people need a bit of space after traumatic things like that happen. We had to wait the respectful amount of time, which felt like years instead of days. Eventually, we got to talk to Noah. Henry and I drove to the Starbucks in the next town over where we were set to meet Noah. I was nervous as all get out. Butterflies were threatening to fly right out of my stomach.
I just got back from Y’allFest! Woo! It was amazing as always. Lots of books, lots of fellow book nerds, and lots of authors! If you haven’t heard of Y’allFest, it’s a young adult book festival in Charleston, SC. There are book signings, author panels, ARC (advanced reading copy) giveaways, and so much more! It’s an amazing event and this is my 3rd year going and it just gets better and better each year. I love going to get tons of books and attend a few panels, but mostly I like going to experience the amazingness of the YA book community. There’s so many people there and while you wait in line for an ARC or for a panel or signing, you strike up conversations about books and life and you end up with a new friend and a few more book recommendations. It’s honestly just so wonderful. I highly, highly recommend this festival. On another hand, since I just got back, I decided to share my Y’allFest haul with you guys! So here’s a list of the top 10 ARC’s* I got from Y’allFest!

“Someone did you wrong, is that right?” the Sheriff asked with his slow southern accent. His elbows were propped on the scratched and dented metal table. Didn’t anyone ever tell him it’s not polite to have your elbows on the table?
“Yes, sir,” I answered, my eyes fixed on his large elbows. Those elbows are probably what put the dents in this table.
“Did they hurt you?” He shifted his elbows and it creaked under the pressure. Damn, now that song is going to be stuck in my head. You know, the good one, by David Bowie.
“Yes, sir.” I wanted so badly to tell him to move his elbows off the table, but it isn’t proper to say such a thing in such a situation as this. I just couldn’t stop fixating on it. Mama always said when you’re fixating on something, you need to give it over to Jesus. A lot of good that would do me. I don’t think even Jesus can save me now.
“Is the person who hurt you the same person you killed?” the Sheriff’s voice was loaded with a mix of sympathy and determination to get answers. Bless his heart, he was just trying to do his job.
“No, sir.” I responded, relishing in the twitch of the Sheriff’s eye, the small frown forming at his lips. He was never going to understand why I did what I did. But maybe you can. Continue reading
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! You totally sang that in your head didn’t you? No, it’s not Christmas. It’s not Halloween. It’s not the Superbowl. It’s much better than all of those combined! I might be overselling it, but I can’t help myself, I just love when I get to do these articles! It’s time for another YA Quarterly Book Haul! And it’s a good haul too. I got a few of these books for my birthday, I bought a few a gifts for myself for my birthday, and others I’ve picked up over the last few months because let’s be honest, it’s really hard to be a human sometimes and people are always saying to practice self love and it just so happens that books are my love language. Anyways, on with the show!
