The DC Extended Universe (DCEU) film, Suicide Squad, hit theaters several weeks ago. And the movie has gotten its share of mixed reviews. While the fandom is not quite as divided on this film as they were on Batman Vs Superman back in the spring, the movie has still managed to create a divide between those who liked it and those who thought it was absolutely awful. I must admit that for the first time, I’m able to be positive about a DCEU film. I actually quite enjoyed Suicide Squad. Here’s why…

This week saw the release of a new Suicide Squad trailer. I am so stinkin’ excited about this movie! I absolutely adore Harley Quinn and I’m hoping against hope that this will be the DC film to start a trend of really good DC movies. Probably not. But I choose to be optimistic. All that being said, I’m opting out of taking a look at this latest trailer and will probably continue doing so until the movie’s release in August. I know what you’re thinking. What reason could I possibly have to do that when I’m totally stoked about the film? Well, I’ll give you five reasons. Continue reading →
We all make resolutions and we all fail to stick to them…and by “all,” I mean all of us, literally. Don’t deny it. You know it always sounds good in the beginning and then by about week 3 you start wondering what was so great about that resolution to begin with. And then you try to make a stance against resolutions with the whole “I don’t need a New Year to be better. I can do that anytime I want. Blah Blah Blah.” We all know that’s really code for “F**k losing weight! It’s winter time. I need these extra 15lbs for body warmth!” Continue reading →
This weekend at SDCC, the first trailer for Suicide Squad was screened for attendees at the movie’s panel. Naturally, it leaked faster than a baby’s discount diaper. There has since been speculation that this leak, along with the leaked Deadpool trailer, will have studios rethinking whether or not to show exclusive footage at future cons. In the meantime, however, Warner Bros has decided to release the leaked trailer officially. And I, for one, appreciate it.
While I am excited about this first glimpse of the film and the characters, if I’m being completely honest I have to say the movie looks good, but not absolutely amazing. I am choosing to continue holding onto my excitement because of my love for Harley Quinn. And I am keeping in mind that shooting is not even completed for this film, so what we are seeing is by no means a true representation of the end result. Take a look at the trailer yourself and take to the comments to let me know what you think. Do you believe Suicide Squad will be awesome or fall flat? And what do you think of exclusive footage leaks from cons? Should the studios expect it? Or should geeks keep their cameras off? Sound off!
The Suicide Squad is a team made of supervillains who are forced to work for the government taking down threats so big that their outings are basically suicide missions. Hence the name. This premise makes for excellent comics. DC and Warner Bros are hoping it will translate into an excellent movie as well. The cast has started shooting and they are throwing themselves into the darkness of the material. Unfortunately, this means they might need a little help ascending back out of the dark. Enter the head shrink.
