Welcome back to our week of Getting to Know Sister Geeks and today you’ll get to know me, Taylor. I’m just a simple geek with a love for books, about a million fandoms, and cats. Like, my idea of paradise is going book shopping with no budget, or having a deep or funny conversation with a fellow geek about any fandom, or being surrounded by cats/just watching cat videos. Having all three would be literal heaven for me. Without further delay, let’s dive in to these questions.
1. Why write?
This is a great question. For creative writing, I think I write because I have so many stories and characters in my head who develop over time and at some point, I just have to let them out. I have to put it on paper, to tell their story that’s been in my head for months or years. For articles, I write to share my love of a particular fandom or gush about my current obsession. It’s such a good feeling to write about these things and see how many of you also love that book or that movie or that show. It’s such a happy feeling to know someone else loves the same stuff as you, it makes you feel apart of a community and that is such a lovely feeling.
2. What’s your very favorite? (Anything!)
Currently, I am obsessed with anything cactus related (shout out to the cactus shirt I just bought), minty things like mint chocolate chip ice cream or a minty candle (shoutout to the mint and lemon candle I just bought), and the book I am currently reading, Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy by Cassandra Clare. It’s been over a year since I’ve read one of her books and I forgot how much I love the world and characters she’s created. I simply cannot read the book fast enough.
3. What is your Hogwarts House? Why did the Sorting Hat choose it for you?
I am a Ravenclaw and proud of it. I think the Sorting Hat chose Ravenclaw for me because I love to learn. I was that student in all my classes who asked a million questions, answered every question the teacher asked, turned in my homework early, and occasionally asked for extra credit projects. I just love knowledge and learning new things. There’s so much to learn and not enough hours in the day.
4. What’s the best show to binge over and over? Why?
I have so many answers to this question. The Office because it’s The Office. It’s like a fine wine and just gets better and better each time I watch it. Parks and Recreation because I want to be Leslie Knope when I grow up so each time I watch the show, I feel a little more empowered, a little stronger, and a little more brave. How I Met Your Mother, because it’s funny. The jokes always make me laugh. This show is my go-to re-watch if I’m feeling particularly sad or overwhelmed. Friends because I love all things 90’s and as I get older, I realize I might be turning into Chandler Bing. And American Horror Story when I am feeling in the mood for things dark and scary.
5. What movie make you cry…Every. Single. Time?
One of my favorite books-turned-movie is Never Let Me Go starring Andrew Garfield, Keira Knightly, and Carey Mulligan because that ending! Man, even though I’ve read the book and watched the movie a dozen times, the ending is just so powerful and final, yet full of hope. Ugh, I do the ugly crying to this movie every time.
6. What is it about Sister Geeks?
First, it’s all about sharing our love of all things geeky–to full-on geek out about a book, a movie, or show together. Second, it’s about finding new fandoms–to explore new genres or find out that fandom you originally thought was not for you is actually something you love (thanks for making me watch The Good Place and read Garden Spells, ladies). And third, and most importantly, it’s about the friendship. I love these ladies and cherish their friendship, their writing advice, and cannot thank them enough for allowing me to become a Sister Geek. Being a Sister Geek has brought so many laughs and so much joy to my life. I will be forever grateful for every moment of it. I truly feel like I’ve made friends for life. Thank you for everything, ladies.
7. What are you binging right now? What makes it so good?
I’m currently binging the new episodes of season 2 of The Handmaid’s Tale. It’s so good and interesting to watch these characters’ progression in a seemingly unprogressive and unforgiving world. Each of these ladies are strong as hell and it just makes me want to keep fighting to make sure the things that happen to these ladies, never happen to anyone ever again.
8. Who is your fictional boyfriend?
This one is easy. Jem Carstairs from The Infernal Devices series by Cassandra Clare (and every other Cassandra Clare book he pops up in). Jem is kind and selfless and caring and the best friend anyone could ask for. He is just the best. He is a dreamboat and absolute fictional boyfriend perfection. 10/10 would recommend, the book series and Jem.
9.Which celebrity tops your FREE FIVE list?
This changes from day to day. One that is almost constant for me is Domhnall Gleeson. You know him as General Hux from Star Wars, but I got googley-eyed over him when he was Bill Weasley in the last two Harry Potter films. He’s Irish, he’s ginger, and he’s adorably awkward. Yes, yes, yes.
10.Who is your OTP?
Speaking of Weasleys. My OTP forever and always is Hermione Granger and George Weasley. Hermione definitely should have always ended up with a Weasley, but maybe not Ron. Ron didn’t truly value her like he should and usually did dumb boy stuff to break her heart. I think George wouldn’t have done dumb boy stuff. He would have made her laugh and realized how much she contributes with her knowledge, instead of thinking she’s just some know-it-all. I love this OTP and will go down valiantly with this ship.
Thank you for reading and taking the time to learn a little about me! Feel free to tell me your answers to any of the questions above, I would love to read your answers and get to know you!
