The show formerly known as Scrotal Recall is now Lovesick. The original cast is back for Season 2 and the adventures continue as Dylan keeps contacting old flames to inform them they must get tested for Chlamydia.
The second season of this delightful British comedy on Netflix picks up exactly where season one left off. Evie is engaged to Mal. Dylan is trying to be okay with it. Luke is having a romantic crisis of his own. And their good friend, Angus, who got married in the show’s first episode, is now in the midst of a divorce.
The chemistry of the cast, humor of the premise, and excellence of its execution are all the same as they were before. The only difference now is the show’s name, which is less shocking but arguably better than the previous one.
In fact, it’s not just the name of the show that’s better now. It’s the show itself. Although the setup and situations are the same, the show is able to take us deeper with each of the characters this season. Since we dive in already knowing the characters and at least some of their background, this season has the time to go beyond the surface of things and let us get a closer look at the heart of the characters. We see more of their emotional struggles and are able to focus greater attention on what they are currently going through than we did in season one. The story keeps moving forward and the stakes somehow seem higher for everyone than they did before.
If you liked the first season of the show when it was Scrotal Recall, I think you’ll also like this second season now that it’s Lovesick. If you haven’t yet checked out the show, I highly recommend you do. It is at turns humorous, touching, a bit sad, and utterly ridiculous. But it’s nearly always a good time.
