It seems like DC has realized a crucial flaw in their grand design and is ready to lay down some seriously big bucks to make things right.
Last weekend, BvS hit theaters and made butt loads of money. However, reviews were mixed at best and scathing in general. The populace is very divided on their receipt of the film. There are many reasons for dissatisfaction, but at least some of them stem from comparisons with the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s more lighthearted and funny tone.
It’s obvious that DC is going for a different vibe–much darker, more brooding, exceedingly dramatic, and almost totally serious. While the move may have seemed strategically sound, it didn’t necessarily pay off the way DC might have wanted… Especially on the heels of the riotously funny and incredibly successful Deadpool just a few weeks ago. DC has apparently realized their mistake and is working to make corrections to their next big film before it can (at worst) crash and burn or (at best) create a divisive mess like BvS.
A source has recently come forward to say that every joke found in the Suicide Squad film is also found in the trailer. YIKES! This, of course, means the film doesn’t have many jokes at all, which likely translates to another intensely dark, grim, and gritty film like the one we just got. Warner Bros and DC have decided that they probably need more light moments sprinkled throughout the movie. So they are shelling out millions of dollars to make it happen. Reshoots are rumored to start this week. The cast, crew and post-production team will clearly have their work cut out for them to get the additional material put together in the few remaining months before the film’s August 5th release date. I don’t even want to think about the overtime hours.

Over at change.org, a fan has started a petition to Warner Bros for the removal of Zach Snyder from the Justice League movie and any further involvement in the DC Exdtended Universe (DCEU).
The petition, which began about a week ago, is well on its way to the goal of 15,000 signatures. As of the writing of this article, there were nearly 13,000. The letter addresses the studio with the following appeal:
Zack Snyder is not the person to bring the Justice League to the big screen. He’s had two chances now to adapt DC characters and has produced middling results.
Even if you loved Man of Steel and BvS. There has to come a time when WB and DC want someone at the helm that can create something that WON’T divide people in such a way.
The building blocks are there for a great different set of superhero movies. Good actors and actresses and even directors. Zack Snyder is just not the guy that should be in charge of the biggest and most important films in the franchise. Especially with his track record now.
What do you think this latest news tells us about what to expect from the upcoming Suicide Squad movie? Do you think Zack Snyder should be removed from the DCEU? Would you sign the petition? Let me know in the comments.
