The Harry Potter world went crazy yesterday when Pottermore announced that there will a new book coming to the wizarding world. Well, sort of. Let’s get some of the facts straight. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the continuation of the Harry Potter series, but the book will actually be a re-telling of the script of a play of the same name that is staged in London. The play starts July 30th and the book will be available in hardback on July 31st. Rowling, along with Jack Thorn and John Tiffany, created the play.
The story will pick up 19 years after the last book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, left off. Harry will be shown as a husband and overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic. To read more about the play and what all it entails, be sure to check out my post with all the important info! In true dramatic fashion, the story will be told in 2 parts due to the ‘epic nature of the story.’ Although the book won’t be released until Harry’s birthday, multiple retailers already have the book for pre-order in anticipation of epic sales.
Honestly, I can’t wait for this to come out. I know, you’re shocked, right? I am so interested to see a sneak peek into what the lives of Harry, Ron, and Hermione look like once they have to take on the responsibilities of adulthood. Will Ron and Hermione still be happily married? Or will their differences make life together to difficult? Will all of the children understand the scope of what their parents went through? Has Draco embraced the fact that his heart isn’t as black as he always acted like? I have so many questions. I just can’t go on not knowing. And that’s really the best part of this new installment. The fandom created this. Fans all over the world need to know what happened and they made their voices heard. Not only are we getting a play so the (lucky!) people in London get to see it brought to life, but fans all over can lose themselves in the story once again.
Now is actually the best time to be a Potterhead because of all the additional things that are coming. Not only are we getting a play and book, but next year is the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. In honor of this, the book will be re-released with 4 new covers, each representing one House. Also, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets illustrated version will be released in October of this year. On top of all of that, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will hit theaters in November of this year with a new edition of the book coming out next year with new content from Rowling! I mean, seriously, Potterheads definitely get what they demand!
What are you most amped about? Will you be pre-ordering the new book? Can you even breathe from how excited you are??
