Well, at least in some format. It was recently announced that Xena: Warrior Princess will be getting a reboot in comic book form. Dynamite Entertainment will be heading up the project with Genevieve Valentine as writer and Ariel Medel as the artist behind the illustrations. This isn’t the first time that Xena has made an appearance in the comics, but this is the first time since about 2008. The comics are set to pick up where the television show left off. Here is a summation of what to expect:
After the Twilight of the Gods, the world is precariously uncertain – and Xena and Gabrielle have been missing from it for twenty-five years. Even without Livia, the power of Rome is growing: Caesar is determined to conquer by lies what he can’t conquer by force, and the people at its edges know what’s coming. (All roads lead to Rome, and Rome is hunting.) Xena and Gabrielle scramble to stop him before they have to wage war against a man they once called a friend. But along the way, Xena will have to confront her past against a rogue band of women warriors, and Gabrielle, whose secret visions are becoming prophecy, will have to protect Xena – at any cost.
This may not be news for many people, but if you were raised with a mom that was OBSESSED (like myself) with the 90’s show, then this is a pretty big deal for you. Seriously, between Xena and Hercules, my family couldn’t get enough. Confession, my sister is the one that actually shared this article with me with some very excited emojis…excited until I pointed out that this is for a comic book and not a TV show. (You know little sisters never read anything beyond the headline!) Granted, I am not really into comics either, but I do plan to keep an eye on this series and see where it takes our favorite warrior princess.
The new comic series will hit shelves on April 13th.
Are you a Xena fan? Will you check out the new comics? Or do you think Xena should be making a comeback on the small screen?
