Joseph Gordon-Levitt is one of those celebrities that you would want to have over for your backyard bar-b-que. You just know he would be the life of the party and keep the energy high long into the night. He is funny. He can laugh at himself. He sings. He dances. He knows how to put on a show. And he seems like a genuinely nice guy. Here are 10 reasons we love him.
1. 3RD ROCK FROM THE SUN
This show was one of the funniest sitcoms of the late 20th century. JGL was fantastic as an alien commander who comes to Earth on a mission with his team and gets stuck in a prepubescent boy’s body. The show lasted 5 seasons and is still funny when you go back and watch it now.
2-6. MOVIES
JGL’s filmography is filled with excellent roles that he totally and completely dominated! I’m giving up half this list for his movies, though there are so many more than just five that deserve mention. Here are some fan favorites:

LOOPER (2012): JGL was phenomenal as a young hit man out to destroy the Bruce Willis version of his aged self.

DON JON (2013): Whatever your position on pornography, you have to admit this is a well-written and well-acted film. A great directing debut for the multi-talented JGL.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES (2012): Some of us had really high hopes that the end of this film would bring a new Batman franchise with JGL at the center.

10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU (1999): A 90’s classic that still stands strong today. When’s the last time you watched this? It’s been too long. Go back and give it another viewing. I promise you’ll still love it!

50/50 (2011): A funny and poignant story of a normal guy’s fight with cancer and the people who have his back. If you haven’t seen this one, you should rectify that situation.

500 DAYS OF SUMMER (2009): I will say that honestly, I felt like 500 days of Summer was at least 200 days too many. I was over her LONG before JGL’s character was. But it was a good film, anyway. Worth a watch at least once.

G.I. JOE: RISE OF COBRA (2009): This first revival of the 80’s franchise was actually a really good time. The sequel we shall not discuss.

Premium Rush (2012): This movie was completely unrealistic, but it was a pretty good time while being so. JGL is cool as a reckless bike messenger and the visual effects were a nice touch.
7. HIT RECORD
JGL loves being in front of and behind the camera. He’s taken his passion and invited others to join him in getting creative with Hit Record. This program, which started online and has since moved to TV, takes video submissions from the public and puts them together to make something greater than the sum of its parts. If you haven’t checked it out, you definitely should.
8. SINGING
JGL doesn’t just act, direct and produce. He also sings… a lot. And he does it well! He always seems to be popping up somewhere around the net all the time with some little bit of musical brilliance. From his Christmas duet with Lady Gaga to his fun jam session with good friend Zooey Deschanel to a fairly epic lip synch battle with Jimmy Fallon (which isn’t actually singing, I know, but is still pretty awesome).
9. DANCING
That’s right girls and boys. He can bust a move when the occasion calls for it. And bonus… He’s happy to do so with or without his clothes as we got to see during his most recent appearance on NBC’s SNL. Is it hot in here or is that just JGL? Speaking of swooning…
10. HE HAS A HELLA SEXY EDUCATION
What’s a sexy education, you ask? Allow me to explain. Following JGL’s time on 3rd Rock, he headed to college. He attended Columbia University in New York City and studied… wait for it… history, literature and French poetry. OH. MY. DAHUM! Did I mention he speaks fluent French? What? You don’t think that’s sexy? Fine. Look into this face…
…and imagine it whispering French poetry to you. In French! Then sitting around and talking books with you. Do you need a minute? Yeah you do!

I think he seems like a right laugh and he doesn’t seem to take himself too seriously.
