You remember Zac Efron, right? He’s the kid with the Bieber haircut who sang and danced with basketballs in Disney’s High School Musical. Well, he’s not that kid any more. Now, he’s full grown, certified man-candy. And he may be coming to the beach on a movie screen near you sometime soon.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news yesterday that Efron is in talks to join the upcoming Baywatch movie with Dwayne Johnson. The film, based on the 1990’s television series about orange-clad lifeguards in California, has been in development for several years. Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) has signed on to direct the film. The script has gone through several writers but most recently has been in the hands of Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. The story revolves around a serious, by-the-book lifeguard (Johnson) who must join forces with a younger, more rebellious team mate (Efron) to save their beach from destruction. If all goes well, the film could start shooting as soon as next February.
I’ve enjoyed Efron well enough since he first hit TV screens in the musical Disney sensation. I’ve enjoyed him immensely more since he started showing his more grown-up side on movie screens in films like The Lucky One, That Awkward Moment and Neighbors. But I have to wonder if he has what it takes to continue the beautiful-bodied, slow-motion-running legacy of Baywatch. Hmmmm…. Let’s see, shall we?
Will you watch a new Baywatch movie? What ladies would you like to see slo-mo running down the beach along with Johnson and Efron? Do you think the movie will absolutely have to have a David Hasselhoff cameo? Tell me your thoughts in the comments below.
