In case you haven’t been keeping up with the newsfeeds, we have confirmation of our newest Spider-Man, rumors about Green Lantern and only the tiniest bit about what’s in store for Gambit. See the breakdown below.
I wasn’t actually aware of just how much I wanted Asa Butterfield to be the next Spider-Man until I was informed that he definitely would not be. Instead, Tom Holland has been cast as the web-slinger, who will make a brief, cameo-like appearance in Captain America: Civil War. Holland will also star in the next Spider-Man film, which is set for release some time in 2017. Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, in a recent interview with Birth.Movies.Death., stated that the next Spider-Man film would take inspiration from John Hughes and his classic teen movies of 1980’s. “Just as we hadn’t seen a heist movie in a long time… we haven’t seen a John Hughes movie in a long time… We’re inspired by him and merging that with the superhero genre in a way we haven’t done before excites us.”
Tom Holland is fairly unknown to most. His most notable role has been as Billy in the stage version of Billy Madison the Musical Live.
The last Green Lantern movie was a horrible bust, despite the talented Ryan Reynolds playing the lead. Just goes to show, he shouldn’t have been playing anyone but Deadpool anyway. The Green Lantern Corps is scheduled to come back to theaters in 2020. In a recent interview with ET, Tyrese Gibson (Transformers) teased that steps have been taken for him to play John Stewart in the coming film. Gibson had previously posted photos of himself as the willpowered-up superhero, prompting a fan campaign for him to get the role. My belief is that Tyrese desperately wants the part and is attempting to create hype to acquire it. I really, really hope his antics don’t actually work. There are far, far more talented actors who can play the iconic hero. I pray the studio keeps that in mind.
Rumors abound that the next Green Lanten movie will include more than one incarnation of the hero. Chris Pine has been named (again, in rumors) to play Hal Jordan in the film. Now, that’s a casting choice I could stand behind! Time will reveal what we can actually look forward to in five years.
Gambit is coming to theaters Fall of 2016. The film, about the popular X-Men mutant, Remy LeBeau, aka Gambit, will star Channing Tatum as the titualar character. Rumor has it the actor has taken card-throwing lessons in preparation for the role. And there are some who are less than confident he will be able to pull off the character’s disctinct Cajun accent. I guess we’ll find out in 2016. As of now, no details are known about the film’s plot.
