For the last three weeks, I’ve binge-watched Supernatural, the CW show about two brothers who hunt and kill the things that go bump in the night. The show is heading into its 11th season this Fall and I will be more than ready for it. But after staring at this face on my screen for so many hours and days, I now have an overwhelming need–not desire, but need–to talk about Jensen Ackles. Because… oh, my damn!
1. His Face
I was originally just going to talk about Jensen’s eyes here because they are beautiful, like pools made of liquid jade. They’re mesmerizing and deep and just so gorgeous. But then I remembered his lips and the way they’re perfectly shaped and how I really, really just want to bite the bottom one. Then there’s the strong jaw with the perpetual 5-o’clock shadow that I’d like to have all kinds of physical contact with. So basically, the man is FINE! I just never get tired of looking at him. He’s like Campbell’s soup… Mmm, mmm good!
2. His Smile
Perfect. Though for the record, I love it best when it’s a little crooked. God help me when he adds the wink. *Swoon*
3. His Blue Steel
4. His Comedic Timing
Jensen is really funny. His deadpan delivery of humorous dialogue is terrific and his expressiveness conveys a million things that his words don’t. I find myself laughing a lot when I watch him. A man who can make a girl laugh is almost always sexy.
5. His Voice
No, Jensen. You’re awesome. There is something about that man’s voice. It’s deep and a bit rough and totally sexy. The sound of it kind of slides over my skin in a way that it’s not really appropriate to talk about here. I seriously cannot even think too hard about what would happen to me if that man were ever to whisper into my ear. Honestly. It’s not decent.
6. His Role as CJ on Dawson’s Creek
I’m gonna keep it real. I didn’t even watch Dawson’s Creek during season 6 when Jensen was on the show. Even though I didn’t stick with it all the way through, Dawson’s Creek will forever hold a special place in my heart. So the fact that Jensen was on the show is still a plus for me.
7. His Role as Jason on Smallville
Jensen is a bit of a character actor and there is nothing wrong with that. His characters are always handsome (obviously), charming and significantly damaged in some way. Jason Teague was no different. This guy followed his underaged girlfriend (Lana Lang) from Paris, got a faculty position at her school, continued to date her even though she was a student, then turned out to be a homicidal mama’s boy. He was crazy, but it made for great TV (as always).
8. His Role as Ben/X5-493 on Dark Angel
Speaking of damaged, this poor guy was a basket case! Genetically engineered and raised as a child soldier, Ben was completely unable to cope with life in the outside world. So he took to serial killing and delivering his victim’s teeth to the Virgin Mary. It was a whole thing. Even though Ben was only in a single episode of the first season and his story was tragic, he was unforgettable. Jensen made sure of that. His vulnerability and the suffering he portrayed made me want to cry for this killer. It was amazing.
9. His Role as Alec/X5-494 on Dark Angel
Let’s call Alec and Ben twins. That’s not what they were, but it’s close enough without digging into context. Though both were played by Jensen, the characters were like night and day. For the second season of Dark Angel, Jensen returned as Alec, the guy with Ben’s face but none of Ben’s crazy. While the show declined in quality, Jensen definitely created a bright spot, what with the crooked smiling and smartass-ing and sexual magnetism.
10. His Role as Dean Winchester on Supernatural
Dean Winchester is funny and damaged, rough around the edges but soft in the center, grumpy and geeky and a whole host of other things that Jensen manages to portray with perfect subtly. I adore this character and there are so many reasons why. Fortunately, I don’t have to list them here. My Sister Geek, Jen P, has already done it for me.
