Just as Katniss Everdeen is the face of Panem’s revolution, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 becomes the face of another revolution… or so some would have you believe.
Clever Domains is a company taking steps to revolutionize internet addresses. Those who were born in the 80s and remember the 90’s as their true coming-of-age-era are perfectly poised to remember fondly both the pre-internet and post-internet worlds. We remember the beginning of the internet when people weren’t sure how to pronounce the @ symbol and there was only dot-com for general internet sites.
In recent years, there has been a slow trickle of other domain options coming into view such as dot-net, dot-me and others. Not long ago, the ceiling was opened on domain names and a plethora of other options became available. The thing is, no one paid a whole lot of attention. Now Clever Domains is hoping to change that. And they are confident The Hunger Games will help.
The mega movie franchise based on the series of wildly successful books has created a new and original domain name to be at the forefront of their marketing campaign for this final film, coming to theaters this Fall. The official website address for The Mockingjay – Part 2 is www.TheHungerGames.movie. This film is the first to utilize the dot-movie domain and Clever Domains is hoping a trend will catch, just like Katniss’ fire.
The company’s website, www.clever.domains, lists a sizable catalog of alternate domain endings, dubbed “not-coms.” The list includes dot-accountants, dot-coffee, dot-cool, dot-fail, dot-pizza and dot-wtf to name just a few. What do you think, geeks? Should we make the switch to sistergeeks.community or perhaps sistergeeks.zone?
What do you think of the not-com revolution? Is it ridiculous or long overdue? Tell us your thoughts on not-coms in the comments.
