Ryan Reynolds just confirmed that shooting in Vancouver has wrapped for Deadpool, a movie about the “Merc with the Mouth” that many Marvel comic book fans adore. As a matter of fact, the geek community had to beg for years to get this film to happen. And now that it is, we fans of the anti-hero are super-excited about the possibility that the character in the film will be the one we’ve come to know and love from the comics. This is, of course, not the first time we’ve been excited about this actor as this character. In the late aughts, the origin story of Wolverine was being butchered to create Wolverine: Origins, a film about the life of Wolverine before he became part of X-Men. Reynolds was cast as Deadpool in the film and played the part perfectly, until the movie destroyed the character and turned him into an unrecognizable and mute creature that had nothing to do with the character, his origins or any part of his story.
The idea of a Deadpool movie was shelved and Reynolds was instead cast as Hal Jordan for the 2011 movie, Green Lantern. The movie was not at all well-received by fans and the film did not result in a new franchise. Fast forward to the summer of 2014 when test footage for the previously planned Deadpool movie was leaked. Ryan Reynolds voiced the footage and fans went wild from the glimpse of the film we’d always hoped to see. The response was so incredible that the movie, which had made no progress toward production for three years, was soon green-lit.
Reynolds began shooting the Deadpool film in April. The movie is set for release in February of 2016. I already have plans to be in line at midnight to see the show.
