If I hadn’t already been planning to catch this season’s final episode of The Flash, Grant Gustin’s emotional plea would have swayed me to do it. And even if I had only tuned in because he asked me to, the flawlessness of this episode from the very first frame would have kept me watching.
Barry Allen, a.k.a. The Flash, has finally figured out who killed his mother. With the help of friends, he’s managed to capture the “The Man in Yellow,” a.k.a. The Reverse Flash, and now he’s ready to get answers. But the answers bring more questions and facing off with his nemesis forces Barry to make some incredibly tough choices.
For the last nine months, the entire cast of The Flash has turned in phenomenal performances. But last night, Gustin had me riveted to the screen as he poured raw emotion into nearly every scene. I couldn’t take my eyes off of him. And this time, it had nothing at all to do with his pretty, pretty face. Other performances of note came from Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon and Tom Cavanagh as Dr. Harrison Wells/Eobard Thawne. Both managed to pull genuine emotion and turn a heartfelt moment into anger on a dime. It’s great fun to watch.
This episode offers up some seriously thought-provoking questions. I found myself asking, “What would I do in that situation?” And there is a moment when the action on the screen made both my husband and I curse out loud and in the aftermath exclaim, “I didn’t see that coming!” While there is closure to many of the plot lines, a new, giant can of worms is opened. Oh, I can hardly wait until next season to see how this is going to blow up!
Rating: 5 SHIELDS!
